We thank the Rector Major for the spiritual gift of this year’s Strenna. A gift that accompanies us and helps us to live deeply Mary’s invitation: “do whatever he tells you”: to actively live out the four (look – listen – choose – act) that Fr Fabio has given us. Let us reflect together on the first verb, “look”?

We live in the digital world; let us look at the data from the Global Digital Report on social media use, a reality that continues to grow, and the time we spend online is also increasing.

What do people ‘look at’ online? To search for information and stay in touch with friends and family… With so much information we look at ‘every second’, there is a challenge for all of us to know what we give importance to, what we pay attention to… we must know how to look!

So often we look but see nothing! Because our gaze is without affection, without love. To look is to learn to see with attention and sensitivity. Like Mary, she was not a ‘neutral’ guest.

Mary looks, attentive to what was happening around her. Mary invites us not to remain distant, indifferent to the needs of those whom the Lord asks us to accompany.

Let us pay attention to the simple, concrete gestures of others in order to value the personal gifts of each person. As servants, each of us is called to serve in silence and with trust.
